PLEASE BRING YOUR THINKING CAPS!
We will have a membership discussion about the direction for the club in 2026. Input from as many members as possible would give the best results going forward.
But I also did some research and found the following. This might be a good framework for the discussion. We could use the summary statement below for the Elmer instead of the generic, if you wish. Just let me know what you would like for the Website and Agenda.
For the 2026 direction, consider aligning with the ARRL’s “Year of the Club” initiative by focusing on member growth, innovative programs, and on-the-air celebrations. Key discussion points could include increasing youth involvement, enhancing technical education and training, improving club communication, and focusing on emergency preparedness activities like the “333 rule”..
Strategic pillars for 2026
Club Growth and Member Engagement:
- Align with the ARRL’s “Year of the Club” to leverage its support for club growth and activities.
- Focus on member recruitment and retention, especially for younger operators, by making the club more inclusive and welcoming.
- Implement programs that incentivize existing members to help increase ARRL membership.
- Consider establishing an education committee to organize classes, exams, and mentorship.
Technology and Modernization:
- Modernize club operations with a strong online presence, such as a well-maintained website, to keep members informed and engaged.
- Explore and potentially incorporate new technologies like the World Radio League contesting platform.
- Host workshops and training on modern modes like those used in digital communications, while also ensuring members are proficient in traditional voice and CW operations.
On-the-Air Activities and Events:
- Plan a calendar of diverse on-the-air events to celebrate on-the-air activities.
- Increase participation in public service and emergency preparedness events, such as Winter Field Day, and promote a structured approach like the “333 rule” for emergency communication preparedness.
- Organize and promote both formal and informal events, like weekly breakfast meetings for casual discussion and networking.
- Celebrate significant club milestones and those of affiliated clubs.
Education and Skill Development:
- Emphasize the connection between amateur radio and other electronics and technical fields to attract a broader audience.
- Focus on technical education and hands-on training for both new and experienced members.
- Recruit volunteers to teach basic courses and mentor new operators.
